Physiotherapy Based on Your Assessment and Goals

Physiotherapy is a regulated health service that assesses and helps manage concerns involving movement, mobility, physical function and rehabilitation.

Your physiotherapist will begin by discussing your symptoms, health history, daily activities and goals. They may then assess factors such as movement, strength, flexibility, balance, posture and tolerance for activity.

After the assessment, your physiotherapist will explain the findings and discuss suitable care options. You will have an opportunity to ask questions before deciding whether to proceed.

Physiotherapy services at Core Wellness Centre are provided by physiotherapists registered with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario.

What to Expect at Your First Visit

1. Meet with the clinic director

At Core Wellness Centre, Clinic Director Dr. Kris Dorken, DC, meets with new patients first to discuss their concerns and help identify the appropriate service.

Dr. Kris Dorken, DC, is registered to practise as a chiropractor in Ontario and is a member of the College of Chiropractors of Ontario.

This introductory visit does not replace an assessment by a registered physiotherapist.

2. Complete a physiotherapy assessment

If physiotherapy is appropriate, a registered physiotherapist will ask about your symptoms, health history, activities, work demands and rehabilitation goals.

The physical assessment may include movement, strength, mobility, balance or other relevant tests.

3. Review the findings

Your physiotherapist will explain the assessment findings in clear language. They will discuss appropriate care options, expected costs and any alternatives that may apply.

4. Decide on the next step

Frequently Asked Questions

What is physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is a regulated health service that assesses and helps manage concerns involving movement, mobility, physical function and rehabilitation. Care may include education, exercise, manual therapy or other approaches selected by a physiotherapist.

Do I need a physician’s referral for physiotherapy?

A physician’s referral is generally not required to book private physiotherapy in Ontario. Some insurance plans require a referral before reimbursing fees. Check your plan or contact your insurer before your appointment.

What happens during a physiotherapy assessment?

The physiotherapist will ask about your symptoms, health history, activities and goals. The physical assessment may include relevant movement, strength, mobility or balance tests. The physiotherapist will then explain the findings and discuss suitable options.

What should I wear to my appointment?

Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move and gives the physiotherapist appropriate access to the area being assessed. Contact the clinic if you are unsure what to wear for your appointment.

How many physiotherapy appointments will I need?

The number and frequency of appointments vary. Your physiotherapist will consider your assessment findings, needs, progress, preferences and goals. They will review the plan with you and make changes when appropriate.

Will I receive treatment at my first physiotherapy appointment?

Your first physiotherapy appointment will include an assessment. Treatment may begin during the same appointment when it is appropriate, there is enough time and you provide consent.

Does Core Wellness Centre offer direct billing?

Direct billing may be available for eligible extended health plans. Availability does not guarantee payment. Coverage, approval and benefit limits depend on your insurer and plan.

Are you accepting new physiotherapy patients?

Yes, Core Wellness Centre welcomes new patients. Book online or call the clinic for help choosing an appointment.

Is physiotherapy the same as chiropractic care?

Physiotherapy and chiropractic care are separate regulated health professions with some overlapping and distinct areas of practice.

Physiotherapy may include assessment, exercise, education, manual therapy and other approaches that support movement and function. Chiropractic care focuses on the assessment, diagnosis and management of conditions involving the spine, joints, muscles and related nervous system.

The appropriate service depends on your concerns, assessment findings, preferences and goals.
