What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic was established in 1895 by D.D. Palmer in Iowa, USA. It is based on the belief that the body can regulate and heal itself through the nerves of the body and spinal cord which is controlled by the brain.
When the vertebrae gets out of alignment or ‘subluxated’, then the nervous system that travels through it can be pinched or damaged which can cause organs and tissues throughout the body to malfunction.
How Does Chiropractic Treatment Work?
Chiropractors restore the spinal function to its optimal position through chiropractic adjustments. This is created by using gentle pressure to realign the vertebrae which in turn, will allow the nervous system to function at its best. The body then use its own ability to heal itself.
What Type of Training Do Chiropractors Undergo?
In Canada, the DC distinction, Doctor of Chiropractic, can be obtained subsequent to a minimum of seven years in university. Particular interest is paid to courses in biomechanics, anatomy, nutrition, neurology, x-ray, diagnosis, physiology and spinal adjusting.

Are Chiropractic Adjustments Safe?
In general, chiropractic care is safe when applied by a skilled professional. Ensure that when choosing a chiropractor that they have the DC degree and have received testimonies attesting to their quality of care.
Is Chiropractic Care Scientific?
The University of Ottawa has recently produced the ‘Manga Report’ that validates chiropractic care for its safe, efficient and cost-effective treatment for low back pain. Chiropractic is available in over 100 countries around the world.
How do Children Benefit from Chiropractic Care?
Children benefit from chiropractic care for conditions as diverse as asthma, scoliosis, colic, earaches, bed wetting and ‘growing pains’. Children in chiropractic care are reported to be more attentive, miss less school and have a lower need for drugs. Chiropractic care allows the body to heal itself by taking away obstructions to the nervous system and so does not aim to treat a specific condition and is beneficial for a full range of symptoms.
How Many Treatments Do I need?
Chiropractic care can be broken down into three types of care: The first is to remove the symptoms, Next is corrective care which corrects the cause of soft tissue damage, muscle weakness and degenerative damage and the final stage is for wellness and well-being. This becomes important to maintain maximum health and healthy lifestyle.
Do I Need a Doctor’s Referral to See a Chiropractor?
No you do not. If you require other treatment than chiropractic, your chiropractor will refer you to the relevant healthcare provider.
